Decision Fatigue and Neurodivergence

Many neurodivergent people experience decision fatigue far more quickly than others.
This isn’t about ability or confidence — it’s about the mental energy required to process options, consequences, sensory input, and social expectations all at once.
When everything feels like a decision, even small choices can become overwhelming. What looks like avoidance or disengagement is often a sign that the cognitive load is already too high.
Reducing unnecessary choices doesn’t take independence away. In many cases, it creates space for it.
Clear routines, predictable options, and agreed plans can lower stress and make it easier for someone to engage with the things that actually matter to them.
Independence isn’t about having endless options — it’s about having the right ones.
