Team Leader

It cannot be stressed how fundamentally important ‘teamwork’ is at North Star Foundation. Teamwork underpins safe and effective practice and is the key to unlocking a person’s independence and life opportunities. A single worker would not be able to make the dreams happen and keep up the momentum by themselves, and our team members work together to share the vision and the work.

The team leader is a rare and a special person who spurs the team and its resources towards common objectives. They are often visionary in their approach and make sure that the needs and wishes of people accessing our service always remain top of the agenda.

The team leader organises their workers in such a way to share the duties across the workforce and harness individual worker’s gifts and talents. They offer support to workers when they need it and work closely with the management team.

The team leader divides their time between front line duties and back office duties, such as planning their services, supporting staff members, and checking quality indicators. It is a highly stimulating and varied role which requires excellent judgment, consistency, and exemplary leadership skills to be successful.

What makes a good Team Leader?

  • Previous supervisory experience and considerable time spent on the front line are both essential (minimum 3 years)

  • Passion for valuing people and the principles of Inclusion, Rights, Independence, and Choice Resourceful, with strong problem solving and decision making skills

  • Flexible timetable and approach to work and able to approach each situation on its merits

  • Consistent and caring, but also fair with a clear communication style and confident with applying professional and social boundaries with all relationships at work

  • Active listening skills and proactive in supporting people when they need it most, especially team members.

  • Reflective and willing to learn and recognise when they may need to ask for help

  • Compliance focused and ready to follow guidance and procedures and apply them in all practice settings

  • Open door management style and willing to set the pace through exemplary standards and conduct

Relevant training is given to all job holders to meet the requirements of their role.
